Dr. Bill Renkas

Owner and Physical Therapist

I grew up in Buffalo, NY and was active as a three season athlete as well as participating in musical theatre. I graduated with my Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2014 from D’Youville College in Buffalo. My future wife and I moved to get out of the cold and followed some friends to Raleigh. During the early years of my career I was hungry for more understanding of how to help people feel better. This lead me to study more about pain science, dizziness, manual techniques, neurological techniques, and dry needling. As I advanced in my career, my passion for helping others continued to grow. I was determined to provide an outstanding client experience that not only got results but was fun while doing it. Fast forward 5 years and my wife and I were solidified as Raleigh residents and started a family. Now we have two smart, brave, ambitious girls Sophia and Isabelle. They keep me honest and help me grow every day. They are the light of my life and I am their jungle gym! We have 2 dogs, a boxer/lab mix (Tucker) and Beagle mix (Moose). They keep us nimble trying to not trip on them as they scavenge for the food the girls have thrown on the floor.

With 9 years of experience, I have acquired many skills. The top skill I have gained has been to listen, hear, and value my clients’ input. Asking good questions and hearing about what each person feels is how I am able to have such great results. Beyond that, I have learned techniques to help facilitate improving mobility and facilitate gaining control of that mobility. I use an eclectic approach as no two people respond to the same treatment. Recently, I have been passing on the knowledge I have gained by teaching as an Adjunct Lab Assistant at Methodist College.

My core values are do what is right, work smart and hustle, don’t take life to serious, and an overwhelming gratitude for each moment and each interaction.

“An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backwards. When life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means it is going to launch you into something great. So just focus, and keep aiming.”

Being the owner, I am jack of all trades. I will do anything from cleaning the clinic to designing flyers and advertisements. Most importantly, I am supporting my clients and team. I am the energy that helps brighten the days of my clients and employees so we can all work towards a life of fulfillment.

One of the things I am passionate about helping people with is understanding their experience. It is common for a session to include an anatomy and physiology lesson, a pain science lesson, self care lesson, and amazing art work to help tie it all together by yours truly. This helps empower people to take control of their body and understand how it works so that they can enjoy being active for years without limitations from pain.

It is hard to name a single condition that I enjoy treating as I love tracing movement patterns to find primary drivers of the condition. It is the why that I enjoy treating most. Why did this happen, why is it important, why is it responding this way. That being said, I do enjoy working on foot problems, low back and hip pain issues, as well as neck and shoulder pain issues.

What drove me to start this practice was to provide a warm and caring experience for those that enter. To give people the time, empathy, effort, and problem solving they deserve. Being able to do that allows me to find the little details that can help people that have not had successful help in the past. It is not uncommon for me to come out and say “I love my job,” when working with clients and getting the results they want.

When not in the office or playing with my girls, I love hiking, swimming, playing hockey, playing guitar, supporting friends and family, cooking delicious food, learning, and enjoying shows or movies. I love going to some of the locally owned coffee shops in the area with meet with friends, do work, hang out with my family and enjoy the coffee! I am a big Bills and Sabres fan however depending on how well they are doing I may not want to talk about it.

Patient Testimonials

Visiting MyPotential was hands down the best decision. I’ve been struggling with headaches, neck, and shoulder pain for well over a decade, trying just about every remedy out there, but nothing provided lasting or noticeable relief. Dr. Bill’s unique holistic treatment approach turned out to be the game-changer I’d been desperately searching for. What sets him apart is his ability to really understand my specific needs. He uncovered potential causes for my pain that I hadn’t even considered. Thanks to Dr. Bill’s expertise, I’ve experienced a remarkable reduction in both the intensity and frequency of my pain. Now, I can finally enjoy my life again without constantly worrying about headaches. If you’re on the lookout for a genuinely personalized and effective approach to physical therapy and pain management, MyPotential is the place to be! Highly recommend!

Dr. Bill is truly amazing. I tell everyone about how different and unique his PT services are. After being at a variety of places that have the same typical set of exercises if you have low back pain, or shin splints, or you could insert just about any common issues here. The program at those other physical therapists felt more “canned”. Dr. Bill looks to understand your unique body, how you are moving (or not moving) in a way to cause those issues. So his treatments are truly unique to each individual person. He’s absolutely life changing!

Life-changing. I’ve been going around all these years thinking that I wasn’t very limber, thinking that you’re supposed to wake up with stiff joints and tight muscles, but it doesn’t have to be like that. Working with Dr. Bill, I’ve addressed pain I didn’t realize I was carrying. My daily headaches are gone. My feet used to give me trouble if I stood or walked too long; now they no longer ache. I can turn my head to check my blindspot while driving without having to turn my shoulders! My pain is gone and my range of motion is better than ever. My lower-back pain (due to years of sitting like a potato) is resolved. He also showed me the right (and easier) way to sit with proper posture. It’s an incredibly simple fix, but it’s not obvious until you’ve been shown by an expert. In some ways, I feel better than I did when I was 20! haha It does take some work. Dr. Bill will show you how to do a number of highly targeted exercises and you’ll be expected to do them between sessions (as best you can, but he’ll also share videos with you so you can continue to improve on them). But the amazing thing is that the exercises are designed to help me at my level, so even though they require some work, I don’t feel fatigued like I used to feel whenever I tried to work out. I feel energized, which is amazing if that’s how most people feel after exercise, because that’s new to me. If you’re thinking – yeah, yeah, but my pain isn’t that bad – maybe you’re right. But pain is really the last indicator that something is off, so if you’re at the pain-stage, then it’s something that already needs addressing. It’s like when a car’s tires are unbalanced. Sure, it can drive from A to B, but after a while the unevenness will catch up to it, and it’ll start having bigger issues than if you had just balanced the tires at the start. On top of the exercise routine Dr. Bill has shown me, I’ve had cupping, which is way more beneficial than I could’ve imagined, and dry-needling, similar to acupuncture. In general, Dr. Bill likes to use a balanced and client-specific approach, so you’ll get a solution that fits your highly unique situation, and not some cookie-cutter program. It costs money, for sure, but it’s a pretty standard rate for the service he provides. Not to mention, the service and the results are by far better than anything I’ve gotten anywhere else. Like I said above, life-changing.
